GUSHAN ENVIRONMENTAL ENERGY LTD - Temporarily Halts Beijing Operations in Connection With 2008 Olympics

Gushan Environmental Energy Limited (NYSE: GU), China’s largest producer of biodiesel as measured by annual production capacity, is trading flat following the Company’s August 1, 2008 announcement that, due to recent heightened enforcement of traffic control measures adopted by the Beijing municipal government in preparation for the hosting of the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic games, it will temporarily suspend operations at its Beijing plant from August 1, 2008 to September 20, 2008. Such traffic control measures require, among other things, that vehicles operating in and out of Beijing meet a certain emission standards, that vehicles be driven on alternate days, depending on whether their license plates are even-numbered or odd-numbered and regulate or limit the transportation of hazardous chemicals by road, which Gushan believes has restricted the ability of its suppliers to deliver raw materials to the Beijing plant.  To read the entire story, click here:

BLUEFIRE ETHANOL FUELS INC. - Teams with Key Technology Partner

BlueFire Ethanol Fuels, Inc. (Pink Sheets: BFRE), a “leader in cellulosic ethanol production technology”, is trading up 1.22% following the Company’s August 1, 2008 announcement that it has signed an agreement with Amalgamated Research, Inc. (ARI) for the exclusive right to use its Simulated Moving Bed Chromatographic Separation (SMB) technology for the separation of concentrated sulfuric acid and simple sugars. After several years of operating experience with ARI’s equipment at pilot facilities in California and Japan and recent testing at ARI’s facilities, where even better than expected results were obtained, BlueFire has determined that the SMB provides the best fit for its concentrated acid hydrolysis process to convert cellulose to ethanol. By using ARI’s SMB, BlueFire recovers approximately 99% of the entrained sugars in the acid/sugar stream. ARI’s extensive research of the concentrated acid/sugars separation was supported by the DOE. General Motors - Reports Preliminary Second Quarter Financial Results

General Motors (NYSE: GM) is trading flat following the Company’s August 1, 2008 release of its financial results for the second quarter of 2008, which include significant charges and special items. The reported net loss was $15.5 billion or $27.33 per share for the second quarter, including these charges and special items, compared with net income from continuing operations of $784 million or $1.37 per share in the second quarter of 2007. On an adjusted basis, GM posted a net loss of $6.3 billion or $11.21 per share, compared with net income from continuing operations of $1.3 billion or $2.29 per share in the same period last year. THORIUM POWER LTD. - Inks Two Five-Year Agreements to Provide Advice to UAE

Thorium Power Ltd. (OTCBB: THPW), “the leading developer of non-proliferative nuclear fuel technology and provider of comprehensive advisory services for emerging nuclear programs”, is trading up 10.42% following the Company’s August 1, 2008 announcement that it has entered into two new agreements for consulting and strategic advisory services.

The agreements are consistent with, and a result of, the UAE policy published in April 2008, for the evaluation and potential implementation of peaceful nuclear energy. Under one agreement, Thorium Power will provide strategic advice for the structuring and launch of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), the vehicle of the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi that will develop and oversee nuclear energy development. Pursuant to the other agreement, Thorium Power will provide strategic advice for the development and launch of an independent nuclear regulatory agency in the UAE – Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR). The new agreements provide for pre-payment of $10 million USD upon signing by the government of Abu Dhabi with an additional pre-payment of $7 million USD to be paid upon formation of ENEC and FANR.
