Geothermal stocks pitched a virtual shutout as all stocks closed either up or even for the day. To say this we are taking a little poetic license and ignoring the fact that PG&E actually closed down a piddling $.02. On a $36.81 stock, that’s the same as even in our book. The rest of the energy sectors closed mixed as the Dow continued to show strength closing up slightly at 11370.69 as a little optimism began creeping back into the economy. The trend was provided an assist by oil which continued to show weakness dropping almost $2 to $123.39. Still, the word for the day would be lackluster as few stocks really showed a commitment in any direction. Moves were marginal across the board.
GEOTHERMAL STOCKS
Although no Geothermal stocks gained in the double digits, the fact the entire sector wound up in the green or even is certainly noteworthy.
US Geothermal Inc. (AMEX: HTM) closed up 3.57% at $2.32 while announcing their Annual Shareholder meeting will be held on August 21, 2008.
Nevada Geothermal (OTCBB: NGLPF) finished the session up 4.8% at $1.139 and
Essential Innovation (OTCBB: ESIV) closed out the day up 5% at $.021.
BIOFUEL STOCKS
The Biofuel sector also turned in a strong session finishing up with advancers easily beating out decliners 9 to 5.
Valcent Products was the big winer closing up 10% at $.55 followed by Nova Biosource Fuels (AMEX: NBF) which finished the session up 7.87% at $.41.while W2 Energy (Pink Sheets: WTWO) closed down 21.67% at $.047 on twice normal volume.
Greenshift Corporation (OTCBB: GERS) led the Biofuel losers closing down 10.91% at $.049 followed closely by Raven Biofuels International which saw its stock decline 8.16% to $.45.
LITHIUM-ION STOCKS
Declining issues surpassed advancers in the lithium-ion sector for the second day in a row by 8 to 6 as all four automakers wound up losing ground. GM (NYSE: GM) led all decliners ending the session down 8.46% at $11.90.
Superlattice Power (OTCBB: SLAT) was the other big loser closing down 6.38% at $2.20.
Ener1 Inc. (AMEX: HEV) lead all gainers closing up 6.14% at $6.40 followed by Valence Technology Inc (Nasdaq: VLNC) which ended the session up 3.82% at $4.35.
FUEL CELL STOCKS
Fuel Cell stocks also failed to eek out a win as decliners edged out advancer 7 to 6.
Viaspace Inc (OTCBB: VSPC) gave a good showing closing up 10% at $.033 on light volume followed by Fuel Cell Energy (Nasdaq: FCEL) which rose 7.82% on the day to close at $8.27. The stock opened up and never looked back on heavier than usual volume.
Plug Power (Nasdaq: PLUG) also had a respectable day closing up 7.82% at $2.41.
Alternate Energy Corp (Pink Sheets: ARGY), on the other hand, didn’t have such a good day losing almost half its value as it finished the day at $.0125 down 47.92% on the session.
SOLAR ENERGY STOCKS
Solar really turned things around from yesterday as advancers really lit up the market outdistancing decliners 12 to 4.
Big winner for the day was Canadian Solar (Nasdaq: CSIQ) which manged to gain 8.48% by the end of the day.
The downside wasn’t any more extreme as the leading loser was Solar Thin Film (OTCBB: SLTN) and it only lost 5% on modest volume.
WIND ENERGY STOCKS
Wind energy stocks continued to suffer from lack of lift as decliners overpowered advancers 10 to 5.
Welwind Energy was the big winner yet it only managed to add 2.69% by the close and for a stock which closed at $.1222, that isn’t a lot.
A couple of stocks did drop in double digits however, led by Americas Wind Energy (OTCBB: AWNE) which continued to show great volatility closing down 16.22% at $.31 after double digit gains in yesterday’s session. .
Wind Energy America (OTCBB: WNEA) was the other double digit decliner closing down 11.39% at $.70. Is it just me or is this odd… two companies with the same words in their name and letters in their symbols, just mixed around leading the sector down for the day. What are the chances?
NUCLEAR ENERGY STOCKS
The nuclear energy sector finally had an up day as advancers edged out decliners 7 to 6.
The lackluster session had few standouts in the nuclear sector too with Urex Energy Corp (OTCBB: URXE) leading the rest closing up 8.89% at $.06.

Thorium Power Ltd (OTCBB: THPW) was the other strong performer ending the day up 6.67% at $.24.
All losers were marginal including Wave Uranium (OTCBB: WAVU) which only lost a fraction of a penny closing down 4% at $.024.
