Fuel Cell stocks led all sectors as the alternative sectors were mixed today amidst rapidly softening oil rallied and a strengthening Dow. The Dow closed up strongly for the third strong day in a row ending at 11,446,66 up 1.85% while oil prices dropped again closing down another 3.79% to $129.50.
FUEL CELL STOCKS
Fuel Cell stocks charged ahead again today with with advancers charging by decliners 10 to 4.
Hoku Scientific Inc. (Nasdaq: HOKU) stumbled early then charged upward leading all fuel cell stocks by closing up 19.92% at $5.72 following yesterday’s after market release of the company’s first quarter financial statement showing a $646,000 profit versus a $343,000 loss for the same period last year.
Enova (Amex: ENA) reversed some of yesterday’s losses closing up 8.98% at $2.67.
Pacific Fuel Cell (OTCBB: PFCE) led losers down 12.50% to $.035 followed closely by Alternate Energy Group (Pink Sheets: ARGY) which ended the day down 12% at $.022.
SOLAR ENERGY STOCKS
Solar Energy stocks reversed their recent upward trend closing down today with decliners leading advancers 12 to 5.
Evolution Solar Corp (Pink Sheets: EVSO) showed considerable strength closing up 16.22% at $2.15 after welcoming Michael Franklin to their Technology Advisory Committee.
China Solar & Clean Energy (OTCBB: CSOL) was the other stand-out winner closing up 7.14% at $1.50.
Canadian Solar Inc led all fuel cell decliners ending the day down 12.01% at $31.37. This will make Canadian’s announced offering today at $34 a share an interesting project. We will watch this closely.
Trina Solar Ltd (NYSE: TSL) softened today as well closing down 8.46% at $30.61.
WIND ENERGY STOCKS
Wind energy stocks hit a downdraft and wound down with decliners beating advancers 9 to 6.
Wind Energy America (OTCBB: WNEA) led decliners winding up down 11.5% at $1.00 while Mass Megawat Wind Power ended the session down 4.21% at $2.05.
Welwind Energy International (OTCBB: WWEI) rebounded sharply closing up 40% at $.14
Americas Wind Energy (OTCBB: AWNE) also showed considerable strength finishing up 10.71% at $.31.
LITHIUM-ION STOCKS
Advancers nosed out decliners 7 to 6 for the second day in a row in the lithium-ion stock sector as GM continued to get shareholder approval for its aggressive move to shore up its financial condition.
General Motors (NYSE: GM) led all gainers again today closing up another 11.93% at $12.85. Ford (NYSE: F) was flat.
Electric Moto (Pink Sheets: EMOT) caughe a willing seller with not enough willing buyers and gave back 60% closing at $.01
Ener1 Inc (AMEX: HEV) also gave back some of its previous gains ending the session down 7.11% at $5.49.
NUCLEAR ENERGY STOCKS
The nuclear energy sector took another beating with decliners leaving advancers in the dust by 10 to 3.
Most utilities drifted lower between 2 and 4% with the only stand out loser being Thorium Power (OTCBB: THPW) which closed down 8.16% at $.22.
Urex Energy Corp (OTCBB: URXE) was the hands down winner closing up 40% at $.07. With higher than usual volume and no news, this may be attributed to information contained within the company’s annual report released on Tuesday.
USEC Inc (NYSE: USU) was the other noteworthy winner closing up 6.71% at $5.41.
GEOTHERMAL STOCKS
Geothermal investors dropped their stocks like a hot rock with decliners leading advancers 7 to 2.
Western Geopower Corp led the decliners closing down 4.62% at $.31 followed closely by Calpine Corp (NYSE: CPN) which ended today’s session down 4.04% at $17.57.
Raser Technologies was the big winner, so to speak, closing up 2.77% at $10.40
BIOFUEL STOCKS
The Biofuel sector also finished in the green with advancers beating decliners barely beating out advancers 7 to 5.
Nova Biosource Fuels, Inc (AMEX: NBF) was the biofuel sector’s most valuable player closing up 12.45% at $.4499.
Pacific Ethanol (Nasdaq: PEIX) also turned in a strong performance ending the day up 9.25% at $1.89 followed by Greenshift Corporation closing up 7.69% at $.07.
